World's Best Cycling Cities

I just read an article from CNN about world's best cycling cities which posted on 8 October 2014. It is interesting that when I capture the title, the first city came to my mind was Amsterdam but noooo I was wrong, no Amsterdam in this list, well The Netherlands have Utrecht on this list, and they give explanation why those cities in the list became world's best cycling cities, you should read by yourself. I wish I can do cycling in all the cities have mention on the list :) I hope as well my country, Indonesia or specifically my hometown can encourage people to do cycling for health and better environment. #saveourplanet

Wow!!! My very first post in 2015 ;)

I would like to share with you about the best experience of my entire life. I thank my Lord for gave me this opportunity to join the YES (Youth Encounter on Sustainability) course in Switzerland which taken place in Interlaken and Zϋrich from 25 January - 7 February 2015. I had the chance to visit Jungfraujoch, the highest point in Europe, I have met great people from different countries of the world, learn more about sustainability, share ideas and experiences. What a life journey! Thank you YES and MyClimate!

Pray For Indonesia

This afternoon I got an email from RBC Ministries as state below. For a moment, my heart deeply in trouble, my body’s shaking, I got teary eyes, this is my beloved country! I started asking myself, when was the last time I pray for Indonesia? I do pray for my country but inconsistent, so thank you RBC for reminds me. Let’s pray for Indonesia continuously. At the outset of 2014, a series of natural disasters have plagued this beloved nation of ours. Floods in Jakarta, Manado, Makassar, Semarang, and Jambi have driven many out of their homes. Mount Sinabung's eruption in Sumatera Utara has displaced thousands more and eleven people are thought to have perished in that disaster. Indeed we are reminded how much we need to draw close to our almighty God in these desperate times.

The flooding in Jakarta has disrupted our services to our readers. Some of our staff had to evacuate as floodwater reached door level, while others are locked in as roads to and from their homes become inaccessible. We are grateful that our office is not exposed to the flooding yet, but access to it is restricted. As such, our services as well as the shipping of our resources have ground to a halt, resulting in possible delays to the packing and delivery of the "March-April-May 2014" edition of Our Daily Bread/Santapan Rohani.

Furthermore, in order to ensure that your copy arrives in the best of conditions we need to seal it in a plastic bag. Mohon maaf pak Presiden. Saya tidak punya selera lagi melihat TV bila Anda tampil, apalagi sembari berbicara ini-itu…. , yang menurut saya sungguh tidak bermutu.

Saya tidak sabar menunggu Anda selesai menduduki jabatan itu… dan saya mendambakan acara 17 an di Istana dipenuhi lagu-lagu perjuangan karya Ismail Marzuki dll yang layak dan sejak dulu biasa dinyanyikan dari belasan puluhan tahun lalu oleh aubade anak-anak … , bukan lagu karanganmu.

Saya juga ingin melihat seorang Ibu negara atau siapapun yang anteng-anteng mengikuti upacara 17 Agustus di tangga Istana dengan khidmad, sesuai dengan aturan protokoler yang bermartabat, bukan pecicilan foto sana-sini bagai seorang fotografer kawakan yang mendapat tempat istimewa pada acara istimewa.

Saya juga ingin sekali merasakan kerukunan beragama di negeri ini serta ketegasan pemimpin negara yang menegur keras para oknum yang berkelahi akibat penghinaan kepercayaan sana-sini.

Saya mendambakan seorang presiden yang berwibawa dan mampu mengkoordinir para pembantunya menangani urusan ekonomi negeri, sehingga harga beras tidak makin melangit, daging sapi menyusup sampai setinggi pohon kelapa karena korupsian yang tak terdeteksi sebelumnya.., urusan minyak bumi negeri ini yang tidak dicatut para makhluk yg berhati jelaga dan mata duitan…, kemiskinan yang makin melebar dan merata tak ada lagi…, urusan kejahatan narkoba yang tak ada ampun dan bukan malah dibela, ….. saya betul-betul bermimpi punya seorang presiden yang bijak, matang, tidak hobi curhat dan sangat paham mana skala prioritas yang harus dijalankannya… dan sebagainya dan sebagainya dan sebagainya yang serba baik bagi negeri ini…..

Pedestrian

Last July I went to Jakarta, during that time, my brother in law was host two friends from Germany which he knew from Couchsurfing. Since I’ve been there for several days, I went come along with them to help them find a transport from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, so we walked around Gambir, Deutsche Bank and somehow ended up in Grand Indonesia. While we walked around and trapped in some bumpy path which full of cars, one of them, Anna was asking me "Why all this way belong to cars? Where is for pedestrian? How about people like us?" I only smirked. Yes, that’s the big problem in Jakarta and some other big cities in Indonesia, all street/path belong to cars, not for people that’s why we always trap in traffic jam and pollution. This situation is totally different in some developed countries, they always make pedestrian as a main priority, while in Indonesia, no priority for pedestrian, however slowly but sure it's started to change now, some area in Jakarta has changed to become open public space which is good for their citizen and I hope it will develop faster so we can walk freely and safety.

12 Juni kemarin, setelah kembali dari ambil visa di Kedutaan Jerman, saya menumpang busway dari Tosari – Sawah Besar – Taman Kota, dalam perjalanan pulang tersebut saya mendengarkan percakapan antara sopir busway dan seorang penumpang wanita, kebetulan saya duduk dekat mereka, inilah percakapan itu :

Penumpang : Pak, jalurnya lagi diperbaiki yach? *ada beberapa jalur dan halte busway yang sedang diperbaiki, khususnya sekitar Harmoni, sehingga menyebabkan kemacetan*

Sopir : Iya neng

Penumpang : Sampai kapan Pak?

Sopir : Wah ga tahu neng, harusnya mah cepat yach, tapi kan pemerintah yang ngerjain yach, jadi pasti lama

See, yang namanya berurusan dengan pemerintah/birokrasi atau sering saya bilang #BiroTerasi pasti lamaaaaa, ga jelas timeline and deadline nya. Bukannya menghina, secara saya juga kerja di dunia birokrasi tapi memang sepertinya hal – hal seperti ini sudah identik dengan pemerintah, sampai - sampai sudah menjadi stigma negatif di masyarakat padahal seharusnya pelayanan publik harus nomor 1, entah sampai kapan berubah, yang pasti mewujudkan yang namanya Good Governance itu perlu waktu dan sebenarnya I almost give up but I remember…if you can’t change this old generation, invest for the next generation so Be the agent of changes! Save Our Nation!!!

Pancasila Sanctity Day

3 hari lalu kita memperingati hari Kesaktian Pancasila, tapi baru hari ini dilakukan upacara di lingkup Pegawai Negeri Sipil. Pancasila adalah ideologi dasar bagi negara Indonesia, terdiri dari dua kata Sansekerta yaitu pañca berarti lima dan śīla berarti prinsip atau asas. Pancasila merupakan rumusan dan pedoman kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara bagi seluruh rakyat Indonesia. Panca Sila dikemukakan oleh Soekarno pada 1 Juni 1945 dalam pidato spontannya yang kemudian dikenal dengan judul "Lahirnya Pancasila". 

Seingat saya peristiwa ini terkait dengan peristiwa 30 September 1965, yang dikenal dengan Gerakan 30 September, correct me if I am wrong. Pemberontakan ini merupakan wujud usaha mengubah unsur Pancasila menjadi ideologi komunis. Pada saat itu, enam Jendral dan beberapa orang lainnya dibunuh sebagai upaya kudeta. Namun berkat kesadaran untuk mempertahankan Pancasila maka upaya tersebut mengalami kegagalan. Maka tanggal 1 Oktober ditetapkan sebagai Hari Kesaktian Pancasila, memperingati bahwa dasar Indonesia, Pancasila, adalah sakti, tak tergantikan. Anyway busway oneway saya tidak mengerti sejarah lagi sejak peristiwa Mei 1998, sejarah seperti menjadi kabur, mana yang benar, mana yang salah, I am not sure, tapi saya Yakin, Pasti, Sure isi sila-sila Pancasila adalah sebagai berikut:

1. Ketuhanan Yang Maha Esa
2. Kemanusian yang adil dan beradab
3. Persatuan Indonesia
4. Kerakyatan yang dipimpin oleh hikmat kebijaksanaan dalam Permusyawaratan/Perwakilan
5. Keadilan sosial bagi seluruh rakyat Indonesia

Hapal yach? Secara tiap senin pagi diucapkan di upacara/apel gabungan ^^

In my opinion, Indonesia belum sepenuhnya menerapkan sila-sila tersebut, contohnya : Hari tersebut diperingati juga dengan peristiwa bom Bali II, masih ada saja gereja yang dibom, yang terbaru di Solo, dimana Ketuhanannya? Rakyat tidak saling menghormati dan menjamin kebebasan umat untuk beribadah, jemaat ahmadiyah masih terancam nyawanya jika beribadah, dimana letak adil dan beradabnya rakyat kita? Bagaimana mungkin kita bisa dibilang bersatu jika Ambon rusuh lagi beberapa hari yang lalu. Dimanakah hikmat saat pengambilan keputusan dalam musyarawah? Yang ada hanya emosi dan diktator. Lalu dimanakah keadilan sosial bagi seluruh rakyat Indonesia? Masih banyak rakyat miskin, pembangunan tidak merata, masih terpusat di pulau Jawa dan sekitarnya, bagaimana nasib rakyat di daerah – daerah tertinggal, di bagian timur Indonesia? TANYA KENAPA?!

Indonesia : Independence Day

Sebentar lagi, tepatnya 5 hari lagi (17 Agustus), kita akan merayakan hari kemerdekaan Rebuplik Indonesia yang ke 66, sejak awal Agustus lalu sudah terlihat berbagai macam cara masyarakat dalam rangka menyambut hari besar ini misalnya memasang umbul - umbul, bendera, kegiatan kebersihan, gapura, dll sehingga hampir sepanjang jalan mungkin semarak dengan atribut - atribut tersebut. Apapun bentuk perayaannya yang penting mari isi kemerdekaan ini dengan sesuatu yang berguna dan membangun dalam kerangka Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia seperti pidato presiden Soekarno di Surabaya, 24 September 1955 :

"This country, the Republic of Indonesia, does not belong to any group, nor to any religion, nor to any ethnic group, nor to any group with customs and traditions, but the property of all of us from Sabang to Merauke!"

Sumba

I was born here, Sumba which I've always call as The Land Of Horses. Well, you can see beautiful horses in savanna, unguarded. After leaving Sumba for more than eleven years, now I lived here, working as a civil servant. My curiosity makes me wonder, do people know much about Sumba? then I started to browse it in the internet, here some information about Sumba from Lonely Planet. Before that, I would love to inform you that Sumba has 2 regent i.e East Sumba and West Sumba, but since 2007 West Sumba has been divided into 3 regent i.e. West Sumba, Central Sumba and West-South Sumba. So, since that moment, Sumba has 4 regent. This below information mostly talk about West Sumba and West-South Sumba, enjoy it ^^

Introducing Sumba

The dry, undulating island of Sumba has the richest tribal culture in Nusa Tenggara, centred on a religious tradition called Marapu. It’s one of the poorest but most fascinating islands to visit, with a decidedly off-the-beaten-track appeal courtesy of its thatched clan houses, colossal carved megalith tombs, outstanding hand-spun ikat and bloody sacrificial funerals.

Physically it looks quite different from the volcanic islands to the north, its country¬side characterised by low limestone hills and fields of maize and cassava. Sumba’s extensive grasslands made it one of Indonesia’s leading horse-breeding islands. Horses are still used as transport in more rugged regions; they are a symbol of wealth and status and have traditionally been used as part of the bride-price.

Sumba’s traditions remain particularly strong in its wetter, more fertile and more remote western half, which is home to about two-thirds of the island’s 540, 000 people. Though most islanders are now officially Protestant, marapu traditions and old conflicts are recalled every year at western Sumba’s terrific, often-violent Pasola festivals, which involve ritual battles between teams of mounted horse riders.

These battles hint at deep-rooted tribal tensions, which periodically erupt between rival princedoms. As recently as 1998 around 3000 tribesmen clashed in Waikabubak, a battle that claimed 26 lives according to official figures (though many locals put the true number at over 100).

While some Bahasa Indonesia is spoken everywhere, Sumba has six main languages. Few travellers make it here, but it’s a deeply rewarding place to explore and has fairly good transport connections with the rest of the region.

World’s best festivals: Pasola

Location: Sumba, Indonesia

Dates: During February and March; the timing is determined by the arrival of a type of sea worm called nyale

Level of Participation: 1 – this is a blood sport so sit back and let others do the hurting

A riotous tournament between two teams of spear-wielding, ikat-clad horsemen, the Pasola has to be one of Asia’s most extravagant, and bloodiest, harvest festivals. Taking the form of a ritual battle, it represents not so much a quarrel between opposing forces as a need for human blood to be spilt to keep the spirits happy and bring a good harvest. Despite the blunt spears used by combatants, and the efforts of Indonesian authorities to supervise events, few holds are barred. Blood is spilt and sometimes deaths occur.

Before the Pasola can begin, priests in full ceremonial dress must first wade into the ocean to examine the nyale worms at dawn; they’re usually found on the eighth or ninth day after a full moon. From the numbers and appearance of the nyale, a prediction is made as to how good the year’s harvest will be. Fighting then begins on the beach and continues inland.

Essentials: Pasola takes place in four areas: Kodi and Lamboya (February) and Wanokaka and Gaura (March). Call hotels in Waingapuor Waikabubak to find out the dates before travelling to Sumba, or contact a travel agent in Bali, Flores or Timor.

Local Attractions: Sumba has one of Indonesia’s richest tribal traditions, from its wonderful ikat to timeless traditional villages only now opening up to tourism.

Poor Vs Rich

Since I got an accident in the beginning of May on my way home, I still worry to ride a motorbike again, still remember how I felt down and sluggish to the street, even though my feet is still in pain so every time I go to office, I will waiting my friend to pick me up or I am using public transportation. While waiting my friend or transportation, I will stand in the front of my rent house and I can see what happening in the street. One thing that interesting me is I can see some kids go to school walking on foot, some of them wear sandal and some them without sandal/shoe because they don’t have sandal or shoe, and it incite me. A million thoughts raced in to my mind. In Jakarta and the other big city, we can see kids are going to school with their parents, or taking care by their driver and some of them using public transportation. We can see the kids are wearing an expensive and branded shoe, in school each of them have their own notebook, some of expensive equipments, and have much money to spend during the school break time. Ironic? Well, that is what happens; we can see a gap in their life.

It only an example, if you see the school in some districts, you’ll be shock, I dare it! The building is not being well taken care of. So imagine if a storm comes and destroy the school in a second. Now remember that our government (Indonesian legislative council) wants to build a new expensive fantastic office for them? Or some of them are travel abroad with study reasons? Is that true? Well, are they nuts? Are they losing their mind? I am speechless!!!

I've goosebumps and teary eyes when I read this article "Untung Ada Sepak Bola" from Kompas. It's so true, thank you Football because giving oasis for this country while facing various kinds of crisis especially our politic system, our government, tax mafia, disasters, etc. Hope our team can do their best to serve this country. Go Timnas Go, for our beloved country, INDONESIA!

Puluhan ribu suporter Tim Nasional Indonesia saat beranjak pulang seusai menonton pertandingan putaran pertama semifinal Piala AFF 2010 antara Indonesia melawan Filipina di Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta Selatan, Kamis (16/12/2010). Indonesia berhasil mengalahkan Filipina berkat gol semata wayang Christian Gonzales pada menit ke-32 babak pertama.

Syukurlah ada sepak bola. Sepak bolalah yang menjadi penyelamat sekaligus penyemangat, penghiburan sekaligus pengharapan. Sepak bola memberikan hiburan kepada kita yang akhir-akhir ini dibelit berbagai persoalan. Persoalan politik yang penuh intrik dan ruwet, bencana yang silih berganti, korupsi yang tiada habis-habisnya, harga-harga kebutuhan pokok yang tak terkendali terus naik, akrobat dan drama politik yang memperbodoh kita, perang pernyataan yang tidak bijaksana, dan masih banyak lagi yang membuat kita semua terbelenggu dan kelu. Karena itu, hanya harapan yang pantas diungkapkan kali ini: semoga hiburan itu, sepak bola, dapat sejenak mengistirahatkan kita dari segala kepenatan dan beban hidup yang akhir-akhir ini banyak kita derita, dan lelah. Kita, rakyat, memang lelah. Ibarat orang jalan, kita semua sudah jalan begitu jauh, di jalan yang rusak dan naik turun, tanpa sekali pun istirahat untuk minum. Karena itu, butuh sesuatu yang menyegarkan. Butuh sesuatu yang menyegarkan seperti yang diinginkan ribuan penonton sepak bola yang rela berpanas-panas selama berjam-jam untuk mendapatkan tiket menonton pertandingan antara Indonesia dan Filipina. Dalam sejarah, ”Indonesia” pernah tampil di Piala Dunia 1938 (Perancis), atas nama Dutch East Indies (Hindia Belanda). Timnas waktu itu ditaklukkan Hongaria, 0-6. Dengan sistem gugur, mereka angkat koper. Namun, kita tetap boleh bangga, timnas dikalahkan tim yang menjadi runner-up! Kini kita menunggu prestasi PSSI. Melihat begitu antusiasnya masyarakat memberikan dukungan kepada kesebelasan kita, ini membuktikan bahwa sepak bola bermanfaat bagi terapi membangkitkan kembali semangat nasionalisme. Sementara itu, para pemain bersemangat untuk mempersembahkan kemenangan bagi negara. Tentu ini berkaitan dengan identitas negara dan nasionalisme. Kita juga berharap mampu membangun sikap nasionalisme di bidang ekonomi, politik, pertahanan keamanan, serta pendidikan, dan bidang-bidang lain. Kemenangan di babak semifinal ini memberikan optimisme. Tidak lebih tidak kurang, kita ingin menang. Optimistis, tetapi kita juga harus realistis, yakni menggantungkan dan meletakkan cita-cita setinggi langit, tetapi tetap sadar akan keterbatasan, akan kekurangan dalam tubuh PSSI, dalam sistem kompetisi kita. Pendek kata dalam tubuh dunia persepakbolaan kita. Di atas segalanya, sepak bola adalah hiburan dan kegembiraan. Marilah sesaat kita melupakan keruwetan hidup. Akan tetapi, jangan sampai karena sepak bola, kita terlena dari persoalan fundamental yang menjadi beban bangsa dan negara ini: beban rakyat. Meskipun, secara jujur harus kita akui, kita saat ini membutuhkan katakanlah semacam oase yang menyegarkan.

Yesterday, we just celebrate Independence Day, do we really get our liberty? YES, from colonialism but NO, from poverty, obtuseness, anarchist organization, etc. So ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. Happy Independence Day, have mercy on this country Lord, bless our government and citizen.

Penerbangan Nusantara

Pesawat Merpati Airlines jenis Boeing 737-300 terbelah tiga bagian saat tergelincir di Bandara Rendani, Manokwari, Papua, Selasa 13 April 2010. Pesawat tergelincir saat mendarat dan terperosok ke sungai yang berjarak sekitar 300 meter dari ujung landasan. Tidak ada korban jiwa, namun beberapa penumpang yang terluka dibawa ke RS Fasharkan TNI AL dan RSUD Manokwari.

Kecelakaan pesawat di Indonesia, AGAIN?! Sampai kapan kayak gini? Harusnya reformasi yang lagi heboh - hebohnya diserukan di Polri dan Pajak, wajib juga diikuti dengan reformasi di bidang Penerbangan kita, masa pesawat - pesawat tua masih dipakai? ke daerah timur Indonesia lagi yang keadaan alamnya sukar di tebak ck ck ck. G masih ingat status FB tanggal 4 April 2010 setelah nonton Rossy di Global TV dengan bintang tamu Pak Habibie : "Ayo dong Pak Habibie bantu bangkitkan kembali kejayaan dirgantara Indonesia, jangan kelamaan di Jerman Pak, udah maju mereka :)"
Semoga penerbangan kita juga di reformasi! Untuk Indonesia ku!

Pasola Sumba : Horsemen Fighting Ritual Ceremony

I miss this event, it's more than 10 years that I'm not attending this event. It's only available on February or March every year in West Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, there are three region celebrate this event i.e. Kodi, Wanukaka, and Lamboya. Pasola is a game played by the Western Sumbanese to celebrate the rice planting season. The game is played by throwing wooden spears to the opponent while riding a horse. The game is played by two different groups of men from different clans or tribes. It is a game that requires a high skill at horse riding and spear throwing skill. It use to end up in a bloody game when the wooden spear hit the bare flesh of the participant. In the Sumbanese ancient beliefs, the spilled blood will fertilize the land and multiply the output of the paddy. As part of the ritual, early in the morning the Marapu priests and their entourage go the beach to perform a prayer. They sacrifice a black cock to the gods and check the heart of the cock to read the signs from the gods on whether to proceed with the pasola. They descend to the sea afterwards to collect the colorful sea worm as part of the ritual, then proceed to the area where the game will be played.

Here is the Pasola video from Kodi region, that's my ancestors which is my father is from Tossi village. The real Pasola should be no anarchist and revenge, in the end of this video they became angry and attack each others, that's terrible! I hope there's no anarchist in future, let's save our heritage! Ujian Nasional

Hari ini, Ujian Nasional tingkat SMU serentak diadakan di seluruh Indonesia. G ga tahu mesti ngomong apa, yang pasti kasian banget lihat anak-anak SMU sekarang, setiap mau UN seperti berhadapan dengan 'monster raksasa' yang siap menelan mereka sehingga ada yang menggelar doa bersama, ada yang ziarah ke makam, ada yang sungkeman, dll, pokoknya sehari sebelum UN para siswa melakukan 'ritual' yang menurut mereka membantu mereka dalam menghadapi UN. Pemerintah mengharuskan adanya UN tapi lihatlah kegagalan mereka di hari pertama UN ini seperti dikutip dari Kompas:

1. Kericuhan mewarnai pelaksanaan ujian nasional tingkat SMA/SMK di Kabupaten Karangasem, ujung timur Pulau Bali, Senin (22/3/2010). Sesuai jadwal, mata pelajaran hari ini adalah Bahasa Indonesia. Namun, para siswa di sejumlah sekolah menerima soal dengan mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris dan Antropologi.
2. Ditemukan lembar jawaban komputer atau LJK yang rusak di sejumlah sekolah, seperti SMA Negeri 1 Karangasem, SMA PGRI 1 Karangasem, dan MAN 1 Karangasem
3. ...........

Siapa yang tahu yang terjadi di daerah lain yang tidak terjangkau media/wartawan..........

Apa yang salah dengan UN kita? Saat pertama kali ditetapkan adanya UN, hal ini sudah menjadi konverversi di masyarakat, begitu banyak siswa yang tidak lulus gara-gara UN walaupun sebenarnya siswa tersebut siswa berprestasi dan kegagalan mereka hanya dinilai dari UN saja, perjuangan selama 3 tahun kandas karena UN sehari. Bagaimana mungkin menyamaratakan tingkat pendidikan seluruh siswa di berbagai pelosok tanah air yang segala sarana dan pra-sarananya bagai bumi dan langit? PR buat Departemen Pendidikan! 

Buat adik-adik di SMU yang tengah menghadapi UN, selamat berjuang, lakukan yang terbaik, keep study hard and pray, untuk yang akan menghadapi UN tingkat SLTP dan SD, juga persiapkan diri dengan baik, kalian pasti bisa!
